If I remember correctly the XML configuration for the phone contains URLs to the various XML services the phone calls on. You can just point them to any web server. Cisco provide documentation for the XML files so that you can create your own services. It can be done with Asterisk. I've managed to get all going after a bumpy ride - but I am looking for some cool XML add-ons for the phones. I've seen people do things with weather and the like - not sure if I need Cisco's Call Manager for that or if it can be done with Asterisk?
